Great report. Reminds me of working on my 90/6, so basic, not simple (for me), but straightforward.

Randy: I, too, grew up with Volkswagens (4 of 'em) and addicted to "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive." It was a good background for working on bikes.

Great shot! What was the nearest town here?

It's on Colorado 17, between Antonio, CO and Chama, NM. We did a weekend ride out of Red River NM in mid May. Good riding with temps ranging between 30 at the high passes and 75 down in Taos/Santa Fe.
