I can see that this weekend's Police motorcycle contest has made you even more competitive.

In that case, any out-of-state registered rider that makes the California event AND donates at least $10 to WWP, gets a free t-shirt!

I will see if I can make the event at Norms. Anyone taken their sport bikes on the ferry from LI to CT before? I actually could just walk I guess, the ferry is only .5mi from the house but the CT side seems a bit farther of a walk :|

Is this just a meet & greet or is there a ride planned as well?

Email Kara the sponsor (see above) about a ride afterwards. She might be able to answer your ferry question, too.

From left: Bob, Daryl, Uhh, my wife said he was a perfect gentleman, my regrets for forgetting your name friend, myself, Brian#1, Brian#2 (Texas T), and his wife Brenda. My wife took the picture and we had a gentleman (another forgotten name) that sat it out.

It's disturbing that the two names I forgot are two of the guys I talked to for a few. Grrr.

After church the wife and I ran an errand and let the dog out. Then I loaded the wife up in her SUV (she's not able to ride right now) and we headed for Wikieup. Twenty miles out, I realized I had forgotten the donation jug. Well, we're early but twenty miles home then back, not happening. Kingman's idea of recycling is big dumpsters in a couple spots throughout town. So, the wife reminded me we still had some stuff in the back to be recycled. We knew there was a 2 gallon water container with a hole in the side in back, so we figured we'd play it by ear. I had asked Steve Brooks to send me the Wounded Warrior Project's logo so I could put it on the donation jug. Something I have run into in past years is if people see an obvious donation jug on a table, often they will come over and stick something in it even if they aren't part of your group. But, that wasn't going to happen either. Then I realized I hadn't brought my grandfather's cap from CV-6 the Enterprise (WWII). Ugh.

I was watching the clock and was hoping I'd get a chance to put something together for the jug but I was still happy to see two bikes, no three, no four, hey there are five bikes here. SWEET. I pulled the jug from the back and the wife used her little knife from her purse to shave off the sharper edges from where the jug had broken when it fell out of the car onto the driveway (another story). She had a marker in the car and I scrawled "WWP DONATIONS" on it and attached the little pin that came on my rally flag.

As we both limped to the front of the restaurant, we noticed a sixth bike parked in a different area. Sure enough all six were here for the RTE. And I got grief for coming in a cage. I expected no less from this crowd! There were deep fried polish sausages and italian beefs and cheezy fries amongst other Chicago style culinary delights. As we sat, I tried and failed to learn everyone's names. I don't think I even got where everyone was from. As we talked I figured out that Brian #1 came the farthest, 250 miles from Amargosa Valley, NV. He was followed closely by Bob Still from Yuma. It was nice to meet Bob after his lovely wife graced our house after the Route 66 RTE a year ago. Most everybody else hailed from the Valley of the Sun.

We had a great time talking about area roads and Texas T's TOH ride and there was lots of other ride and rally talk going around. The jug got some attention and to my surprise it was $255 fuller than when we got there. This will all go to the Wounded Warrior Project. It was a great time raising a nice chunk of change for a great cause.

It was great to see everyone. The BBQ sandwich was pretty darn good. The ride home via 97, 96, Yarnell Hill was great.
