We are in the process of our TOH ride for California. While in Southern Cal we are visiting family for a week or so before heading up Hwy395 to catch Big Pine on the way back home. The other night we were invited to dinner at the home of a long time area resident who is in his 80's and living on the farm that has been in his family for generations. We mentioned the TOH and I took time to show him and his wife the photos we have taken so far. After he saw the photos we were sitting in the living room talking when he said "do you want to see my bomb shelter". Turns out his grandfather had a bomb shelter build with the construction being started they day following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The shelter is only about seven feet square and is underground and built of concrete with a vent out the roof. There is a removable concrete plug in the roof where someone could break through if the entrance were ever blocked. I just though I would share that experience since it was kind of related to our military history.
