The memorial pays tribute to all the area coal miners of the 19th and 20th centuries. Herrin's economy was built on the coal mines and many men paid the ultimate price here providing for their family.

Bonus stop: The Root Beer Saloon is worth a side trip for a frosty mug of micro-brewed root beer. They also have an expansive menu including lobster, crab, shrimp, salmon, trout, duck, pheasant and a lot more. Biker-friendly, a full events calendar, and more stuffed animals than you can ever hope to see in one place. Open daily until 4pm.
