Take a photo of your rally flag with the above image.

This memorial was conceived by, built by, and dedicated to the Vietnam Veterans of West Texas. Along with the engraved names of Permian Basin residents who were killed or missing in the Vietnam conflict, stand the United States, Texas and POW-MIA flags.

The image above is a chilling, but common sight from the war: two soldiers helping a wounded comrade to an approaching Huey helicopter. One signals the chopper, while another watches their back.

Located near the site is the American Airpower Heritage Museum, a collection of WWII military aviation history. Among other exhibits, the AAHM boasts the largest collection of airplane nose art panels in the world.

Bonus stop: Visit well-known KD's BBQ in Midland for a taste of Texas. Free bean bar, Brooks Beer Garden, and "Q served direct from the pit." Closed Sundays and Mondays.
