On May 8, 1846 troops of the United States and Mexico clashed on the prairie of Palo Alto. The battle was the first in a two-year long conflict that changed the map of North America. Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park preserves the site of this notable battle and provides an understanding of the causes, events, and consequences of the first war between Mexico and the Zachary Taylor-led U.S. military.

If you have time, visit the Museum and learn the fascinating battle between 3,400 Mexican trips and 2,400 U.S. troops.

Every November, a memorial service is held to honor the 8,000 veterans of both sides of the Mexican-American War and 8,000 luminaria are placed on the battlefield site.
