This is a glass, rock and steel memorial for all military veterans of Kern County, peacetime or wartime. Names of the veterans are etched onto translucent glass panels, then painted in gold. Nearby is a computer kiosk for searching veterans names that include years of services, awards received and brief biographies. For added effect at night, lights from the fountain rotate red, white and blue, reflecting off the glass panels.

Bonus stop: Try the popular Moo Creamery, just west on Truxtun, run by a husband-wife team of L.A.-transplant chefs. Great burgers and home-made ice cream.
