This is where 23-year-old Abraham Lincoln joined the Illinois militia during the Black Hawk War in 1832. The war started after Chief Black Hawk resented the Illinois and Wisconsin land ceded to the U.S. in 1804 and fought to reclaim it. After the decisive victory by the militia, it was the last indian uprising in Illinois.

Bonus stop: The boyhood home of Ronald Reagan, where he raised rabbits, played pick-up football and was a teenage lifeguard credited with saving the lives of 77 people near here.
