Surrounded by rows of tiles inscribed with the names of Connecticut residents who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the Connecticut 9-11 Living Memorial is located on the grounds of Sherwood Island State Park on the shores of Long Island Sound where on a clear day you can see the New York skyline and the former site of the World Trade Center towers.

One hundred and fifty-three Connecticut residents lost their lives that day and hundreds of others supported the rescue and recovery efforts from the staging area for relief efforts that was set up here.

Note: A parking fee is charged to enter the park daily during the summer (Memorial Day thru Labor Day) and on the last two weekends of April. Parking fees are waived on September 11.

Also in the area: This memorial is a good starting point for your Tour of Honor visits in Connecticut. The park offers a unique venue for quiet reflection and perhaps a picnic. A short distance up the road is Wilson’s Barbecue in Fairfield, the best real pit southern barbecue joint in Connecticut. Grab some takeout (Thurs–Sun) and enjoy lunch in the park.
