The self-propelled M-110 8-inch (203 mm) howitzer first entered service with the US Army in 1963. It transported only two projectiles and five men, while the remainder of the ammunition and the crew is on board a tracked M548. The M-110 Howitzer fired a 200-pound projectile out to almost 17 kilometers (16,800 meters).

Local history: along with the Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, the Chickasaw were one of the last to be moved to Indian Territory (IT) during the "Great Removal," on what was called the "Trail of Tears." The end of the Trail of Tears for the Chickasaw Nation was at Good Springs in what is now Tishomingo.
