Created in 1996 to honor wildland firefighters past, present, and future. The monument features plaques honoring 14 wildland firefighters killed in 1994 while fighting the South Canyon fire on Storm King mountain near Glenwood, Colorado. Nine of them were Prineville “hotshots.”

The plaques are located along a winding path through whispering Aspen trees, leading to the life-sized statue of these three firefighters.
