Dedicated on Veterans Day, 1983, the Mid-Columbia Vietnam Memorial stands high atop a bluff overlooking the Columbia River Gorge and the city of The Dalles. Although known as a Vietnam memorial, it also has a stone monument and bubbling stone to honor veterans of Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Next to that is another stone monument honoring all who have served the cause of freedom since the Spanish American War.

Supporting the flag pole is the memorial to local service men and women who gave all during the Vietnam War.

The final piece honors SFC Loren R. Kaufman, a native of The Dalles, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Korea in 1950.
