The shrine was initially erected by soldiers returning from World War I to honor their fallen comrades. After other units of the 28th Division erected their own memorials, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania purchased what had become known as the "28th Division Shrine." There is also a War II memorial on the grounds, which includes the names of the members of the 28th who died in battle.

Parking and Access:
Parking is free and the shrine is easily accessible.

Also in the area:
The Pennsylvania Military Museum is at the same location.

The Boalsburg Cemetery (which claims to be the birthplace of Memorial Day) is just across the road, as is the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum.
