The Lackawanna County Courthouse is surrounded by a large courtyard filled with various memorials. The tallest of them is the Civil War monument. The giant obelisk features figures of Civil War-era soldiers and sailors.

There is metered parking directly in front of the obelisk and also around the perimeter of the plaza.
