The Southern Ute Veterans Memorial honors veterans from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. The primary memorial lists veterans from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. An eagle in flight is shown on the shiny black marble on the reverse side.

On the north side of the full-block park area is a memorial to WWI veterans. WWII veterans are honored with the memorial on the west side of the park. Korean War veterans are honored on the south side.

Vietnam veterans are honored on another memorial to the east, inscribed: “In 1997, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Wall stood on this ground. We, the Southern Ute people, honor the brave soldiers who gave their lives, for a people so far away in a time we will never forget.”

Also in the area: The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum is one block to the north. It is a fairly new museum where you can experience the unique history of the Ute people through their eyes and gain an insight into the defining stages of Ute history.

Another block to the north is the Sky Ute Casino Resort with gaming, dining, entertainment, and a hotel.

Bonus ride: CO-151 east, follow the scenic and winding road to US-160 to Pagosa Springs.
