On the grounds of the Connecticut Police Academy, the training home of police officers throughout the state, the Police Memorial is dedicated to the 135 Connecticut officers who have died in the line of duty since 1855.

The pavilion, fronted by an eternal flame, houses an obelisk engraved with the names of these fallen officers whose mission to “Protect & Serve” resulted in the ultimate sacrifice.

Also in the area: A side trip to the Sleeping Giant State Park, a rock formation spanning 3 mountains, include some great twisty New England roads, and with a short hike, the views of Connecticut and Long Island from the Sleeping Giant Tower on the mountain’s summit.

Afterwards, a stop at O’Rourke’s Diner in Middletown takes you to one of the country’s most eclectic and innovative diners as featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
