Entitled “Between Morning and Midnight,” this monument to fire rescue and emergency response personnel depicts a fire fighter and EMS provider looking back at friends and family as they depart this world, and is dedicated to all emergency response providers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their neighbors. They are climbing seven steps, representative of the seven days of the week that they go to work to serve and protect never knowing when the tragic day their sacrifice is required will come.

The other figures, the mother grieving for her loss, the child consoling and offering hope to those who will come to serve in the future, and the old man with wisdom and understanding represents those the emergency providers serve. All of the figures are reaching out to touch each other, to say goodbye and share their loss.

Also in the area: Annapolis is the home of the US Naval Academy where a tour and a visit to the Naval Museum (including Alan Shepard’s Freedom 7 space capsule) is one of the top things to do in Annapolis.

Wednesday nights feature night sailboat races on the Chesapeake, and every day is a good day for a visit to the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Stop at Chick & Ruth’s on Main St. for award-winning crab cakes and best eggs and hash!
