The Doughboy Memorial was dedicated in 1926 to honor the 16 Clatsop County soldiers killed during the Great War. The life-sized bronze soldier sits atop a public restroom, the only one listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites.

Also in the area: Astoria is home to the Columbia River Maritime Museum, Oregon’s official state maritime museum. It’s also the home of the Oregon Film Museum, located in the former county jail which was used as a location in the movie “Goonies.”
