The Washington State Veterans Cemetery was dedicated on Memorial Day, 2010 and the first interments began on 7 June 2010. The state had asked for a national cemetery to be located in eastern Washington, but the federal government denied the request because the number of vets in eastern Washington didn’t warrant it. The cemetery then became the successful project of the State of Washington.

In addition to traditional interments, the cemetery also provides Columbarium niches and a scattering garden for cremated remain. The scatter garden was a project of a local eagle scout candidate. It includes pathways and landscaping providing a serene, quiet place where people can sprinkle the cremated remains of their loved-ones.
