This is a Blue Star Memorial. The Blue Star symbolizes the blue star on the World War II service Flag that hung in the homes of service men and women. The spacious memorial covers approximately an acre of land bordered by a serene lake. Sidewalks, lined with granite stone plaques dedicated to men and women who served our country and flanked by luxurious green grass, lead visitors through and around numerous monuments dedicated to Veterans. All branches of the Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Merchant Marines are represented.

Monuments include a memorial to the Vietnam Veteran, the Korean Veteran, the WWII Pacific theater and Atlantic theaters, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, the Cold War, and other engagements. At the entrance to the park is a Marine dedication to First Lieutenant Therrel Shane Childers of Powell Wyoming who was the first American to perish in operation Iraqi Freedom. The street in front of the Childer's monument was renamed to LT. Childers Street.

Also in the area: While in Cody you can visit Yellowstone Park, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, and Old Trail Town. You might as well relax for a while, because there is too much natural beauty to pass by or miss!
