Located at the highest point on Interstate 80, the Purple Heart Trail Marker denotes the highest honor given to the men and women of the Armed Forces who are wounded in action while serving their country. The Purple Heart Trail was established in 1992, by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a Fraternal Organization chartered by the United States Congress. Purple Heart Trail markers exist in forty-five states and Guam. The Purple Heart Trail is a visual tribute to combat Veterans located along the by-ways and highways in the United States and its territories. Monuments are designated through official legislation passed by the United States Congress.

You also can't miss the enormous bust of Lincoln in the same rest stop as the Purple Heart Marker. The Lincoln Monument marks a section of the original Lincoln Memorial highway.

Also in the area: the War Memorial Stadium at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The stadium is the largest monument in Wyoming dedicated to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. The stadium was dedicated in 1950 and originally sat along side the War Memorial Field-house.

Visit the folks at the Laramie Chamber of Commerce located downtown at 800 South 3rd St. There is plenty of free parking across the street and plenty of restaurants in the area. The Chamber of Commerce has coupons from local businesses on hand for visitors.
