The memorial is dedicated to Veteran's of World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Sculptor John Kuchera created the iron mountain with a bronze eagle perched on top as part of the nation's bicentennial celebration in 1976. The Sheridan County Veteran's of Foreign Wars commissioned the sculpture to honor and remember Veterans on that monumental day in history.

Also in the area: If you are a fan of bronze sculptures and art, Sheridan has a lot to offer. Check out the brochure, Art on Display.

Every third Thursday between June and September is the Third Thursday Street Festival. The festivities are right on Main Street, so you won't be able to miss them.

When you leave Sheridan, consider the Bighorn Scenic Byway (US 14) to Shell Falls, a sight you don't want to miss. Granite Pass is the highest point along the byway and you will love the amazing vistas, picturesque meadows, and scenic mountain views along the way.

In the town of Shell, you can stop at Dirty Annie’s for great gifts, food, and ice cream or visit the Historic Antler Inn and say hi to crazy Al and his lovely wife, Wendy.

If you need a place to stay while you are in the area, be sure to check out the Greybull KOA. Cor and Maria built some really nice two bedroom cabins. Their boxers also like to say hello to guests entering the campground from the roof of the campground office.

If you are in the mood for great barbeque, look for the Caveman Kitchen Barbeque in Greybull. Caveman’s is a traveling barbeque stand, and Brad, the owner, often sets the stand up outside of the Silver Spur Bar, 445 Greybull Ave.

If you can, save some time to ride through The Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center between Greybull and Lovell on US 14a.
